October 2013, Poland - Buy responsibly

The participants of the project took part in the meeting under the title "Buy responsibly. Your shopping shapes the world". The meeting was held by Mrs Bozena Bucwinska. We drew up The Responsible Consumer's Code.

Responsible consumption means making shopping decisions based on the awareness of social and environmental consequences they entail by using raw materials, manufacturing, distribution, use and utilization of a particular product. Due to globalization each component of this process influences life in both rich and poor countries, no matter where it takes place. Buying a particular product we stand for what it represents: :

  • by whom and in what working conditions was it produced?
  • what materials were used and what did the manufacturing process look like?
  • how do its use and utilization influence natural and social environment?
  • does the purchase have a negative impact on the development of the countries of the Global South?
